Teen Kayak Academy

After over 15 years of teaching youth the path of the paddle in our flagship Youth Kayak Academy, it is time to offer whitewater magic to the Teens!  This course is a skill development course with the objective of introducing river kayaking and water safety.   Each course day is divided into a morning and afternoon session.  Every morning, students learn and practice kayaking skills and techniques that progress over the 5 day format. Afternoons are dedicated to various whitewater disciplines such as,  learning to Paddle Board, Jr. Raft Guide training, ropes and rescues and inflatable kayaking. By the end of the week, your teen will have gained confidence on moving water and have connected with similar minded individuals.

This course is progressive and ensures student comprehension before moving to the next level. We start on flat water learning about the equipment, basic paddling techniques and safe wet exits. Over the next couple of days, the students graduate to the river to study currents and eddy lines. By the end of the week, the paddlers run different sections of the Slocan river in either a plastic or inflatable kayak, depending on their comfort level.

We offer this program to a wide age group to accommodate all skills levels. With the return of alumni students we have the capacity for group splits and one on one sessions.

Teen Kayak Academy specializes in group leadership, rescue techniques and kayak fitness. Students learn basic paddle strokes and concepts, river safety, how to roll, and more.

Suitable for ages 13-17.
