Katrina Van Wijk Intermediate 2days

Bio: Katrina Van Wijk has a lifetime of paddling experience to share, from training for the Olympics in Slalom, racing Class 5 around the world, and thriving in the wilderness on expeditions. Katrina grew up in the Ottawa Valley, kayaking since she could walk. Throughout her personal kayaking career she worked for her family’s paddling school; Madawaska Kanu Centre, teaching and raft guiding to offset her travel expenses. Now she lives in Revelstoke, BC working as a Graphic Designer and is the president of the newly founded paddling club.

Instruction style: Whitewater is for everyone – whatever your limits and objectives are. My goal is to give you the knowledge and confidence to fall in love with whitewater kayaking.

For this course we will focus on how the basics will help us improve our overall kayaking. Endless Adventure is the perfect setting for us to dive deep into each skill – cross current momentum, rolling and ‘boof’ing, to name a few.  The Slocan Valley hosts a wonderful selection of rivers perfect for kayak improvement.  Starting out on the Slocan river to assess paddler skills and make hard moves on low consequence whitewater is the first focus of the course.  After observing the paddlers on day one, custom instruction is catered to each participant with the goal of total improvement and the introduction of tools to keep progressing well after the course is over. Local eateries offer a wide selection of healthy and organic options to meet any dietary needs.  Nearby camping is available as well as B & B options. Hotel accommodation can be recommended in Castlegar or surrounding area.

Be sure to bring your personal protection equipment and a river running or creek kayak.
